Blended Whisky

Charakteristik:
Aroma: Einladende Aromen von getorfter Gerste und Rauch, die wärmenden Gewürzen mit gerösteten Marshmallows weichen.

Geschmack: Am Gaumen ist er ölig und dick mit einem deutlichen Islay-Charakter. Es entwickeln sich komplexe Schichten mit flambierter Banane, gegrilltem Fleisch und Honigmalz.

Im Nachklang langanhaltend und wärmend, mit anhaltendem Kohlenstaub, verkohlter Ananas und Piment-Süße.


Ausbau: oak casks, finished in Rum casks

Besonderheit: Zur Feier des Feis Ile 2024 hat Big Peat seinen Thropaigeach whisky in limitierter Auflage herausgebracht, von dem weltweit nur 5588 Flaschen erhältlich sind.
Diese Edition wird in speziell ausgewählten Rumfässern gereift und ergänzt Big Peats Islay Single Malt, um eine verwegene tropische Explosion zu erzeugen!
Thropaigeach ist Gälisch für tropisch.

Ein vatted malt, non chill-filtered, wahrscheinlich natural colour. "Eine Schaufel voll von Islay single malt Scotch whiskies inklusive malts destilliert in den Destillerien von Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, Port Ellen." Port Ellen? In einem blended malt für 36,75 €?
Herausgekommen im September 2009, für manche der Ersatz für den Clan Denny blended Islay malt, regt der enthaltene Port Ellen in diesem vatting zu Spekulationen an.
Zuerst darf angenommen werden, daß Port Ellen nicht der Hauptbestandteil ist. Da er kein Alter angibt, ist sein Herz sicher unter 10 Jahre alt, egal welche malts sein Herz ausmachen. Abgesehen davon, daß Douglas Laing vor Jahren all diesen Port Ellen fürs blending gekauft haben, gibt es darunter casks, die mitllerweile unter 40% sein dürften, also nicht mehr als whisky verkäuflich. Gehen wir davon aus, daß auch nicht alle Top Qualität haben können. Dazu ist das noch ein small batch. Was tun? Die Kunden neugierig machen.

Such vattings often form the heart and soul of a blended scotch whisky (which carries the lighter tasting grain whisky , to soften matters). This vatting carries a big peaty (often called “phenolic”), beachy oceanic slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay, from where the Laing family hail - and no wonder! - as we have included Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen in the "recipe". Ally these lusty and robust Malts selected for Big Peat with the fact that no chill filtration takes place – a more old fashioned traditional approach – and you will detect a massive amplification of the anticipated sea-faring qualities on the nose, palate, and finish. These are particularly appreciated when consumed leisurely in the same style these Malts have waited for you in the cold, dark and windswept warehouses of Islay."
